An important goal for the research alliance is to provide all members with professionally relevant experiences in life sciences. Opportunities for students to hone science communication skills through periodic departmental poster sessions have proven to be a great way to introduce undergraduates to this common professional practice. Additionally, this activity is a nice way for alliance members to showcase the discovery research that is happening as a normal component of the department's freshman curriculum. The next step for the alliance will be to pursue peer-review manuscript submissions to disseminate research discoveries more widely.
